What type of Cable Do I Need for my car?


K-Line Cable
For model years 2000-2007, using K-Line USB cable connecting to the car through 16 pins OBD port inside the car.

K-Line Cable Set
For model years 1997-2007, using K-Line cable and 16-20 pin OBD adapter when round 20 pin OBD port can be found under car bonnet on the inner wing. (This 20-pin adapter is not ADS so will have limited support for ADS-equipped models, i.e. E36).

D-Can Cable
For model years 2000-2010+, using D-Can USB cable for 2007-2018 and using supplied 16-16 pin K-Line adapter for model years 2000-2007. (D-Can cable will work on all E-series models up to 2018 software dependent).

D-Can Cable Set
As Above D-Can cable and adapter but with an extra 16-20 pin OBD adapter to support 1997-2000 model years E38 E39 and E46. (This 20-pin adapter is not ADS so will have limited support for ADS-equipped models, i.e. E36).

Ethernet Cable
For all new F series models.

 

ICOM

(Integrated Communication Optical Module) Interface is a diagnostic tool used by BMW dealerships and service centers for communication with BMW vehicles. It is a multiplexer that connects to the vehicle's OBD-II port and provides wireless communication with the vehicle's electronic control units (ECUs). The ICOM can be used with a variety of software programs, including ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application), which is the official BMW diagnostic and programming software. The ICOM also can reprogram and update vehicle software and firmware, as well as perform various diagnostic functions. BMW Software Service Station 
SSS/Progman V32 is a software platform used by BMW dealerships for the programming, individualisation, and encoding of BMW vehicles. It allows technicians to perform a wide range of tasks, including updating vehicle software, diagnosing faults, and configuring vehicle options to meet customer specifications. SSS/Progman V32 is an older platform that has since been replaced by newer systems like ISTA-D and ISTA-P, which are used for diagnostics and programming respectively.

BMW Diagnostic System - INPA for Dealerships

Just to clarify, the E-Series and R05x Mini models use the K+DCAN cable or ICOM interface with SP-Daten files, NCS Expert, WinKFP, and EDIABAS software for coding, programming, and low-level ECU communication. On the other hand, Fxx-, Ixx-, Gxx-Series, Mini, and Rolls-Royce models use the ENET cable or ICOM interface with PSdZData files and E-Sys software for coding and programming. ICOM has four adapters: ICOM A is the main interface, ICOM B is for programming multimedia in E-Series, ICOM C is for older BMWs with a round 20-pin diagnostic plug, and ICOM D is for motorcycles.

ISTA+ (Integrated Service Technical Application Plus), formerly known as Rheingold or ISTA-D, is a dealership-level diagnostic software for all BMW vehicles. It can also be used for programming on F/I/G/RR & MINI models but requires an ICOM (Integrated Communication Optical Module) to do so. It is compatible with Windows 10 v1903 or higher.

ISTA-P (Integrated Service Technical Application Programming) is a programming software traditionally used for all BMW chassis. However, it is being phased out by August 2018, except for legacy E-series. It is recommended to use an ICOM with ISTA-P. An ICOM emulator with K+DCAN can be used, but it will NOT program every ECU. It is important to note that replacement ECUs must be NEW.

The minimum requirements for using ISTA-P include a Windows 7-10 computer with at least a processor with two cores and 2.6 GHz, as well as at least 4 GB RAM.

  • Please note that the programs in this lot are Non-Plug and Play, and require computer knowledge for installation and use. If you have never reinstalled Windows, drivers, or set up a network printer, or router before, please think before purchasing. Configuring ports and IP addresses will also be required for BMW diagnosis programs, so it is essential that you have the knowledge to do so.

  • If you do not have computer knowledge, please do not buy these programs as improper installation or use may cause damage to the electronic components in your BMW. If you decide to purchase these programs, you accept all conditions described in the lot.

  • ISTA-P ist ein Programmierungstool, das von BMW-Werkstätten zum Programmieren oder Aktualisieren von Fahrzeugen genutzt wird. Allerdings ist es ungeeignet für Codierung.

  • ISTA+ wird auch Rheingold genannt und ist ein Diagnosetool, das fehlergeführte Reparaturanleitungen und vieles mehr bietet.

  • INPA ist ein älteres Tool, das direkt mit Steuergeräten kommunizieren kann. Allerdings funktioniert dies nur, wenn die passenden Dateien (Scripte) vorhanden sind. Es hat einige Einschränkungen und kommt besonders bei den F-Serien an seine Grenzen.

  • E-Sys ist eine Codierungssoftware für F-Serien. Es ermöglicht das Codieren, Flashen usw. und hat eine hohe Funktionsvielfalt, aber es fehlen jegliche Sicherheitsmechanismen.

  • NCS Expert ist im Prinzip das E-Sys für E-Serien, aber es unterscheidet sich in der Bedienung.

  • PSdzData sind Daten, die von E-Sys benötigt werden, um überhaupt arbeiten zu können. Sie sind ein Extrakt aus den ISTA/P-Daten.

  • SP-Daten sind Daten, die NCS Expert benötigt, um überhaupt arbeiten zu können. Sie stammen ebenfalls aus den ISTA/P-Daten.

  • Für F- und E-Serien werden unterschiedliche Interfaces benötigt. F-Serien benötigen einen Enet-OBD-Adapter, während E-Serien ein K/DCan-Kabel benötigen. Wenn man alles machen möchte, ist ein ICOM als Interface am sinnvollsten, da es am besten mit ISTA/P und D zusammenarbeitet.
